Setthorns Campsite and Caravan Park happens to be the only one of the Camping In The Forest run New Forest campsites that remains open all year round. It continues to retain its reputation as a campsite that offers beauty, seclusion and a “getting back to nature” feel to the place. It also remains ever popular and attracts campers back year after year.
It is located in the south of the New Forest National Park. The nearest local village is Sway which is just 1.5 miles away. Slightly further away you will find Brockenhurst, a picturesque village which was recently declared Britain’s Most Beautiful Place to live. Popular Lyndhurst is also worth a visit, this small town offers a plentiful supply of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
Idyllic Setthorns
Come and immerse yourself with nature at the almost secretive and secluded campsite that is Setthorns. It is a fantastic place to pitch your tent or bring the caravan, hidden nooks and pathways are waiting to be explored and make up most of the campsite. Follow the trails as they weave seamlessly within the enchanting woodland. Beyond the pitches, its difficult to know where the campsite ends and the trees begin.
It is important to note however, that there are no toilet or shower facilities at Setthorns Caravan Park and Campsite, so a chemical toilet is required to stay here.
Setthorns campsite has 235 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, each of which blends in with the spectacular New Forest surroundings. Giving that “back to nature” feeling, bushes and mature trees divide the pitches to conjure up a tranquil and private environment. Beyond the campsite there is a mixture of dense forest and heathland that is sure to whet the appetite of those with a sense of adventure.
Easily navigable paths loop through the campsite which fork off in various directions. The varying landscapes and vistas of Setthorns is a major appeal to those who visit and certainly adds to its character. Surrounded by lush forest on all sides, why not take off onto one of the many waymarked routes that criss cross throughout the forest. With direct access from the campsite, the nearby disused railway line is a great place to start and enables you to discover the magnificent local area by either walking or cycling.
Camp With The Wildlife
Choosing to camp at Setthorns will put you in the perfect position to experience the wonderful sights and sounds of the New Forest wildlife, which include the free roaming ponies and deer. In addition, wild birds of prey can be observed cruising high in the sky over the treetops, aswell as the smaller mammals busying themselves as they go about their daily lives in the forest’s heathland and woodland.
Local attractions and family days out include Beaulieu National Motor Museum, New Forest Wildlife Park and Paulton`s Family Theme Park. If a trip to the coast takes your fancy, Barton on Sea, Milford on Sea and the bigger resorts of Christchurch and Bournemouth can be easily reached from the campsite, and provides an alternative choice to the forest environment.
