There are a small selection of pubs and shops in Ashurst and they are just a few minutes walk from the entrance of the campsite. The New Forest Hotel is situated across the other side of the railway line that runs adjacent to the campsite. Ashurst New Forest train station is convenient for those wishing to travel by train in the area, the line connects to nearby Brockenhurst just a few miles to the southwest and also offers direct trains to London and Bournemouth, stopping at Southampton.

Things To See & Do

Lyndhurst is the official capital of the New Forest and lies even closer to Ashurst campsite, it is a couple of miles away and is a recommended place to visit during your stay. The New Forest Museum is located in Lyndhurst car park and will provide a wealth of information to visitors in the area. There are a host of shops, pubs and restaurants to be found in this pretty town and it`s always worth stopping for a cream tea if you have the time. Other nearby local attractions include the Longdown Activity Farm and The New Forest Wildlife Park.

The Ashurst Campsite and Caravan Park occupies a small area of lovely woodland called Ashurst Wood. Beyond the wood reveals Matley Heath, a beautiful expanse of New Forest heathland criss-crossed with tracks perfect for walking and cycling. Unfortunately for dog owners, you need to be aware that dogs are not allowed on this particular New Forest campsite. However, Assistance Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a short lead.

Staying at Ashurst campsite offers a unique forest camping experience, alongside traditional open pitches the site is encompassed by ancient oaks which can be explored beyond the forest edge. Camping at this site enables visitors to truly absorb the wonders the New Forest provides and also enjoy it’s rich blend and character.

As with many of the other New Forest campsites, it`s easy to head off into the forest onto one of the many waymarked routes. All of the routes are simple to navigate and you are soon immersed within the local flora and fauna, with multiple opportunities to explore.

Ashurst campsite has 280 standard pitches, ranging from wide open spaces to peaceful secluded spots nestled amongst the trees. It`s worth noting there is no electricity but there are toilets, a shower block and a launderette.

How To Get To Ashurst Campsite And Caravan Park

The entrance to the campsite is located just off the A35 Ashurst to Lyndhurst road. If approaching from the Lyndhurst direction, follow the Ashurst signs on the A35 for approximately two miles and you’ll see the site entrance shortly after the trees end and the open grassy area begins on the right hand side.. Coming from Ashurst village direction, pass over the railway bridge, you will then see the New Forest Hotel on your left, go past this and a short distance away you will turn into the campsite entrance.
