New Forest camping has to feature as one of the top destinations to visit if you love camping, nature and appreciate the beautiful landscapes of one of Britain`s great National Parks. At one time, the New Forest covered vast swathes of southern England and there are laws that still protect these ancient lands dating back as early as 1079.
As a result of those original and later laws, around 7,000 livestock are able to graze on the open New Forest land. With unrestricted access, these animals have the freedom to roam throughout the forest. Ponies and cattle wander the roads and campsites at will. Up to six different species of deer can often be spotted in quieter areas, whilst donkeys and pigs are also a common site in certain locations at various times of the year.
The wild and domestic animals inhabit a multitude of contrasting landscapes which encompass the forest’s 571 square kilometres. This area of outstanding natural beauty within Hampshire contains 10,000 hectares of gorgeous heathlands, rolling hills, valleys and superb coastlines. It also has the highest concentration of ancient trees in Western Europe.
Perfect Camping Experience
If it`s a relaxing and fun New Forest camping or caravanning experience you seek, then it`s worth taking a look at, in my opinion the best New Forest Campsites situated within the National Park. These are ten managed sites operated by Camping In The Forest, this well reputed company runs forest and woodland based caravan parks & campsites all around the UK, particularly focusing on the New Forest. It is also run in close conjunction with the Forestry Commission and Camping and Caravanning Club.
There are also other privately owned campsites dotted around the area if you wanted other options, however, I would recommend that you choose the wonderful Camping In The Forest sites to experience the unique New Forest atmosphere and the added benefit of utilising their well established campsites.
New Forest Camping Friends
Camping in the New Forest promises to be a fantastic experience enjoyed by individuals, groups or families alike and most campsites are situated right in the heart of the Forest. The Camping In The Forest campsites are set amongst totally natural surroundings and it’s not uncommon to find the local wildlife passing your pitch at some point, such as the friendly New Forest ponies, an inquisitive cow or two, or perhaps even the odd deer!
The amenities and facilities on offer can vary between the New Forest caravan parks and campsites and it’s crucial to note before booking that not all of the sites have toilet and shower facilities. In cases like these, where there are no toilets available, a chemical toilet of some kind is required for you to be able to stay on the campsite. Other important points worth noting are that only a couple of the campsites have electrical hook-up options and not all of the campsites in the New Forest allow dogs.
Beautiful Camping Landscapes
The New Forest National Park quite rightly deserves its reputation where beauty flourishes and nature thrives. Owing to its history of protection and special status…plants, trees and wildlife have been permitted to develop without threat throughout the lifespan of the forest. The creation of this natural masterpiece are the results of these valuable efforts. Its breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife attract visitors old and new to this national gem time and time again.
